Critters

Oh the flowers! The incredible flowers, bushes and small critters of the fynbos...

Grey Mongoose

My little friend, Ms Mongoose, completes her daily inspection of the backyard. And she conveniently controls bugs, snakes and lizards around the house.

Game such as the nocturnal Grysbok, Duiker, gracious Bosbok are present on the farm and have been spotted quite often. A couple of months ago a beautiful genet visited the backyard one evening and seemed completely at ease. I peered through the kitchen window, barely daring to breathe, however, in case I startled it. What a gift from nature!

The flowers speak for themselves. This is God's Garden.

According to recent studies, the rate at which the biodiversity of the Cape Floristic Kingdom is being depleted is higher than in any of the other five global floral kingdoms making this region the hottest biodiversity hotspot internationally. Our Floristic Kingdom enjoys over 9600 plant species, of which about 70% are endemic to the region. At least 1 400 endemic plant species are now endangered or close to extinction and, as their natural habitat degrades, the endemic fauna which used to thrive in the area are becoming scarce and their future existence is threatened. Insensitive and unsustainable lifestyles, agricultural practices and development put increasing pressure on our natural resources, and demands urgent coordinated action.
